representing or recreating a landscape are
          enormous. This course will look
specifically at issues of unwrapping an
environment to create a 2D image, and
wrapping an image to be a 3D. Students
          will use panoramic photography, QuickTime

to both recreate real world landscapes and
          to present fictitious environments. A

ART 392D Topics in Art or Media I Conceptual Design 3 credits

          Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD Problem
          identification is an often overlooked
critical success factor in business and in
design; those who can correctly and
          appropriately define problems are better
able to apply innovative concepts and
          skills to address the multi-dimensional
nature of today's complex problems. Our
ability to inquire, to be curious about a
question, to redefine a question, and to
astutely target a question is crucial to
the success of any solution. This advanced
          course is a problem-identification and
          problem-solving exploration of concepts,
          applications, trials and solutions. We
will address issues of cultural awareness
and technology for the purpose of having
an expansive view of "Design." Problems
and solutions will be examined very
dynamically using a holistic approach to
the human experience such as: cultural,
          technological, economic, social, and other
          attributes. Innovation is the foundation
of this course. Innovations will lead to
          formulating successful products and
solutions as well as ways to visualize
results that maximize the shared end-user
experience. Students in this course will
work on real projects, define real
          problems (e.g., problem identification),
and build viable solutions in an
          environment of transdisciplinary
discovery. Also listed as ART 649M.

ART 649L Special Topics Studio Landscape Cubed 3 credits

(PermReq) Grade Method: REG From painting to
          sculpture, from panoramic photography to
QuickTime VR, and from dioramas to virtual
          reality, the challenges of effectively
representing or recreating a landscape are
          enormous. This course will look
specifically at the issues or unwrapping
an environment to create a 2D image, and
wrapping an image to be a 3D space.
          Students will use panoramic photography,
QuickTime VR, 3D modeling, and 2-3D paint
programs to both recreate real world
          landscapes and to present fictitious
environments. A mixture of individuall and
group projects will allow students to
create 2D and 3D environments as formal
landscapes or as a locales for events.

ART 649M Special Topics Studio Conceptual Design 3 credits

          Grade Method: REG Problem identification
is an often overlooked critical success
factor in business and in design; those
who can correctly and appropriately define
problems are better able to apply
innovative concepts and skills to address
          the multi-dimensional nature of today's
complex problems. Our ability to inquire,
to be curious about a question, to
redefine a question, and to astutely
target a question is crucial to the
success of any solution. This advanced
          course is a problem-identification and
          problem-solving exploration of concepts,
          applications, trials and solutions. We
will address issues of cutural awareness
and technology for the purpose of having
an expansive view of "Design." Problems
and solutions will be examined very
dynamically using a holistic approach to
the human experience such as: cultural,
          technological, economic, social, and other
          attributes. Innovation is the foundation
of this course. Innovation will lead to
          formulating successful products and
solutions as well as ways to visualize
results that maximize the shared end-user
experience. Students in this course will
work on real projects, define real
          problems (e.g., problem identification),
and build viable solutions in an
          environment of transdisciplinary
discovery. Also listed as ART 392D.
