Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD Problem
identification is an often overlooked
critical success factor in business and in
design; those who can correctly and
appropriately define problems are better
able to apply innovative concepts and
skills to address the multi-dimensional
nature of today's complex problems. Our
ability to inquire, to be curious about a
question, to redefine a question, and to
astutely target a question is crucial to
the success of any solution. This advanced
course is a problem-identification and
problem-solving exploration of concepts,
applications, trials and solutions. We
will address issues of cultural awareness
and technology for the purpose of having
an expansive view of "Design." Problems
and solutions will be examined very
dynamically using a holistic approach to
the human experience such as: cultural,
technological, economic, social, and other
attributes. Innovation is the foundation
of this course. Innovations will lead to
formulating successful products and
solutions as well as ways to visualize
results that maximize the shared end-user
experience. Students in this course will
work on real projects, define real
problems (e.g., problem identification),
and build viable solutions in an
environment of transdisciplinary
discovery. Also listed as ART 649M.
