Gender in US Business History
Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD This course will
explore women's participation in the
social and economic institutions we
commonly call "business." It will trace
female entrepreneurship from colonial
midwifery to Tupperware, and examine how
modern women transformed traditional
business models to build giant
corporations in "feminine" markets like
cosmetics. Readings will also construct
women as producers, investors and
consumers. Fundamentally, this course
examines the cultural context for women's
engagement in the market and how that
behavior has challenged conventional
definitions of business in the United
States. Also listed as WMST390A and AMST
355.
