of Economics
Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD The science of
economics has had a very significant
influence on our society. Yet, a few
centuries after its birth, the status and
methodology of ecomomics are largely
controversial. The course aims to
encourage a critical reflection on the
fundamental concepts of modern economic
theory and to achieve a better
understanding of its implications for
society. In the course, we shall evaluate
the nature of economic explanation and
knowledge, the status of fundamental
economic postulates, laws and theories,
the role of ideologies in shaping economic
theories, the economic models of rational
behavior, and the relevance of economics
for social justice. Prerequisite: Two
courses in either philosophy or economics,
or the instructor's permission.
