or 103 may be used toward UMBC's
language/culture requirement. Students

two decades of the twentieth century the
mid-century "boom" in Latin American
literature found a new source of
creativity and talent in thetexts of
contemporary women writers. The emergence
of women's voices in Latin American
literature has brought distinctly female
and feminist perspectives to the literary
examination of gender relations and
identity, class struggles, ethinicity,
politics, and the formation of national
and cultural identities. This course will
focus on the fiction, theater, and poetry
by contemporary female writers emerging
from the diverse geographical, historical
and social contexts of Latin American
imaginations. Lectures, readings, class
