U.S. & Cuba - Bridging the Blockade
Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD In this course,
UMBC students will connect with Cuban
youth in direct people-to people dialogue
using the Internet to bridge the
longstanding economic and travel blockade
of Cuba. Participants will critically
examine their own cultural and
socio-political knowledge-including
stereotypes and assumptions-and focus on
culture as common language as well as a
reflection of social issues. Participants
in this computer-mediated communication
will explore how social issues are
reflected in culture in US and Cuban
socities. At least two semesters of
university-level Spanish of equivalent
