PSYC 393B Special Topics in Psychology Laughter and 3 credits
Humor
Grade Method: REG/P-F/AUD Laughter, one of
the stranger and most mysterious of all
human behaviors, is the focus of the
course. Whether overheard in a crowded
restaurant, as punctuation to the intimate
conversation of lovers, or as the noisy
guffaws on a TV laugh track, laughter is a
fundamental part of everyday life. It is
so fundamental, in fact, that we forget
how odd -- or how important it is. The
course, based on the book, "Laughter: A
Scientific Investigation," will cover
every aspect of laughter, ranging from its
infectiousness and what it reveals about
human relationships to pathological
laughter and health benefits. Laughter and
humor in philosophy, literature, cinema
and music will also be covered. 3 credits.
