leading realist novelist of modern times.
His novels are internationally famous, and
they have served as the basis for over 20
films produced in Spain, Latin America,
and the United States. In this course, we
will study three novels and the films
based on them: Dona Perfecta (Madrid,
1876) and the film Dona Perfecta by
Alejandro Galindo (Mexico, 1951); Tormento
(Madrid, 1884) and the film Tormento by
Pedro Olea (Madrid, 1974); Nazarin
(Madrid, 1897) and the film Nazarin by
Luis Bunuel (Mexico, 1958). The course
will be conducted in Spanish.
