Politics and Conflict Resolution

Examines the patterns of conflict and conflict resolution in both non-industrial societies and industrial states. Ethnographies are studied that reveal the different mechanisms societies have developed to deal with attack from within and without its borders. Topics include feuds, negotiation, diplomacy, global power relations and large-scale warfare. Particular emphasis on warfare and its relationship to nationalism and shifting meanings of freedom.
