DANC 100 Introduction to Modern Dance (AH) 3 credits

This course examines the principles, philosophies and choreographies of such pivotal figures in contemporary dance as Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Doris Humphrey, Paul Taylor, Rudolf von Laban, Mary Wigman and others through regular studio classes in dance technique, readings, lectures and films. Note: This course runs concurrently with the technique portion of DANC 110. For more information contact walton@umbc.edu.

DANC 110 Beginning Modern Dance Technique I 2 credits

First in a series of courses which emphasize the technical aspects of and growth of students' skill in dance. This course satisfies either academic credit or one semester of physical education. DANC 116 Ballet I--Elementary Ballet (AH) (ST) 2 credits

First in a series of courses based on the study of classical technique. The emphasis at this level is on alignment and exposure to the basic movement vocabulary of ballet. No previous experience necessary. Note: May be repeated for a total of four credits. Only one course designated as ST may be used to satisfy the AH requirement.
