| An introduction to American Sign Language. Emphasizes simple receptive and expressive conversational skills and the unique features of American Sign Language grammar. Also provides a historical overview of American Sign Language and an introduction to deaf culture and folklore. Videotapes, films, readings, and nonverbal exercises are part of the instruction. | A continuation of ASL 101. Provides a higher level of receptive and conversational practice and introduces several "uninterpreted" activities with and for the deaf. Lectures develop further aspects of deaf culture, non-American Sign systems, and other communications systems by members of the deaf community. Prerequisite: ASL 101 or permission of the instructor.
