PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

The Summer Research Fest      Research_Fest

August 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007- The EMBARC Trainees presented scientific posters of their summer research projects at the Annual UMBC Summer Undergraduate Research Fest in August. In addition to the EMBARC Program, UMBC hosts other undergraduate events that include the BCURE (Breast Cancer Undergraduate Research Experience) Program, the MARC (Minority Access to Research Careers) Program, and the Summer Biomedical Training Program all of which also participate in the Summer Research Fest. In 2004, the newly funded BSURE (Biomedical Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) joined the event. In 2005, the event was held on the 7th Floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery for the first time. It featured a platform presentation by EMBARC Trainee Matthew Copeland as well as scientific poster presentations by all ten EMBARC Trainees.


Get Acquainted BBQ

June 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007- All EMBARC Trainees were invited to attend the Get Acquainted BBQ held at the Biological Sciences Building of UMBC. Undergraduate researchers mingled with mentors and administrators as they enjoyed pot luck fare.

 

Other activities

2002, 2003- EMBARC Trainees had the opportunity to visit the National Aquarium in downtown Baltimore organized through the UMBC Student Activities Office.

In 2004, 2005, and 2006, the EMBARC Trainees had opportunities to go to Camden Yards for an evening of Baltimore Orioles baseball through the UMBC Student Activities Office.

2005 - EMBARC Resident Assistant Lauren Saurez planned a variety of fun group activities with other the undergraduate researchers at UMBC including a Luau and a Spades tournament.

The 2005 EMBARC group ended their ten-week research experience with a special picnic at the home of Drs. Zengel and Lindahl.
