Caroline Bithell gained her PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Wales, Bangor, and is currently Lecturer in Ethnomusicology at the university’s School of Music. The main focus of her research to date has been the island of Corsica, where she has conducted fieldwork since 1993, with some comparative work in Sardinia and Malta. Her particular areas of interest include polyphonic singing traditions, musical revival and transformation, the professionalisation of traditional musics, music and politics, and gender issues. She is just beginning a term as co-editor of the British Journal of Ethnomusicology. |
