The UMBC MARC
U*STAR Program is a preeminent undergraduate scholarship
opportunity with the goal of increasing the number of students from underrepresented
groups who pursue Ph.D.
degrees and
careers in biomedical
research or mathematics. This program is funded by NIGMS
(National Institute of General Medical Sciences)/NIH (National
Institutes of Health).
The
success of the MARC U*STAR Program at UMBC is rooted in a solid foundation
for student
achievement based on three key elements: outstanding student talent, research
mentor excellence and comprehensive administrative staff
support.
This
program has a strong history of helping participants maintain high
grade point averages while balancing increasingly difficult
courses in the biomedical sciences and conducting active extended individual
research projects under the supervision of their MARC
Research Mentors.
