Anita Maddox Jackson
B.S., Health Science and Policy
Chair
Corporate Contributions Committee, BGE
Baltimore, Maryland

Growing up in a rural community on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Anita Maddox Jackson could have chosen to attend a college closer to home, but she wanted to be at a school that provided opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with people from a wide variety of different cultures.

By choosing UMBC, she became the first in her family not to go to a historically African-American college.

Health science and policy was a relatively new major at UMBC when Jackson enrolled, and she saw it as an opportunity that would allow her to pursue her interest in a medical field in a broader fashion. In 1983, after working in a research position at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Jackson accepted a position with BGE in its Department of Medical and Safety Services. Currently, she heads a committee of eight people which administers the BGE Foundation and makes grants to charitable and non-profit organizations in the Central Maryland region. Her responsibilities also include corporate volunteerism and educational services.
