“UMBC and the Meyerhoff Scholars Program have given me more opportu nities for personal growth than I could have imagined at any other institution. The achievements of other Meyerhoff Scholars inspire me to focus on my own studies and to work hard in pursuit of my goals.”

The Meyerhoff Program is open to all high-achieving high school seniors who have an interest in pursuing doctoral study in the sciences or engineering, and who are interested in the advancement of minorities in the sciences and related fields.
Prospective freshmen, with strong high school backgrounds, routinely turn down spots at other top schools to come to UMBC because they recognize the edge that the Meyerhoff Program offers (see Scholars Experience). Meyerhoff Scholars are twice as likely to graduate with a science or engineering major than students who decline the scholarship offer. Their GPAs in science, math and engineering are higher, and they are significantly more likely to enroll in a graduate program in a technical field.

Award Benefits
The Meyerhoff Scholars Program awards range in amounts from $5,000–$22,000 per year for four years.

Nominations
To be considered, students must be nominated by their high school administrators, guidance counselors or teachers. The selection timeline is as follows:

September 1 - Letters are sent to all principals and guidance counselors requesting nominations for the upcoming year.

October 15 – All nominations are to be postmarked or sent to us by this date. Applications for the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program are sent directly to the nominee’s home address once nominations are received.

December 1 – All applications for the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program are to be postmarked or sent to the Meyerhoff office by this date.

April 15 – All decision letters will be sent by this date.
