CNMS Annual Summer
Undergraduate Research Fest (SURF) at UMBC

2009 SURF HIGHLIGHTS

Fifty-two talented young scientists from near and far presented their summer research projects at the Twelfth Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Fest at UMBC on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. From analyzing the pigment genes of Mexican tetra to targeting select proteins in the war on cancer, a variety of topics were presented by students and/or programs affiliated with the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. All oral and poster presentations were given on the Seventh Floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library at UMBC. Many UMBC faculty and invited guests attended the conference to learn about the student research projects conducted over Summer 2009.

In lieu of presenting a single mentor award, the 25 Summer 2009 Research Mentors along with numerous post docs, graduate students and experienced undergraduate researchers, were honored for their ongoing support of student research and their willingness to invest their time and resources in mentoring summer research students.
