The LSAMP Center for International Undergraduate Reseach (Website) Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz, is offering nine Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) during the summer of 2009. The program will begin on Monday, June 22 and run for 10 weeks until Friday, August 28, 2009. Each SURF student will receive a stipend of $3,750 in addition to on-campus housing, and will be involved in a collaborative research project with a UC Santa Cruz faculty member. The program also provides advice about graduate school and the application process through GRE preparation, meetings with different departments of the Harvard School of Public Health, and individualized mentoring by Harvard faculty. Application Information Caltech's Amgen Scholars Program is geared towards students in biology, chemistry, and biotechnology fields. Some of these fields include biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering, and chemistry. Eligibility: Students must be current sophomores through non-graduating seniors, must be attending a four-year university, and must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required. Support: Amgen Scholars will receive a $5500 award, round-trip air transportation, a generous housing allowance, and a food allowance.
