Positions range in level of education, experience and desired majors from Computer Science to the Natural Sciences to both Mechanical and Chemical Engineering. The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) is accepting applications for two summer internship programs: 1) The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SCEC/SURE) program pairs students who are typically majoring in earth science, geography, geotechnical engineering, or other related majors to conduct research
one-on-one with a SCEC scientist at the scientist's institution or field site; and 2) The Undergraduate Studies in Earthquake Information Technology
(SCEC/UseIT) program unites undergraduates from many disciplines to conduct
team-based information technology research at SCEC headquarters at the

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program at University of California, Santa Cruz. See their website for information and to download application materials. Application deadline is February 18, 2008.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz, is offering nine Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) during the summer of 2008. Our program will begin on Monday, June 23 and run for 10 weeks until August 29, 2008. Each SURF student will receive a stipend of $3,750 in addition to on-campus housing, and will be involved in a collaborative research project with a UC Santa Cruz faculty member. See their website. March Deadlines

Summer Research with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) of the National Institutes of Health. Eligible applicants must be from a racial/ethnic background that is recognized as underrepresented in the fields of biomed ical and behavioral science . Application Information. Deadline March 17, 2008.

The Department of Biological Engineering (BE) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is presently seeking outstanding current undergraduates to participate in the Research Experience for Undergraduates Program during the summer term of 2008. The REU Program, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, provides non-MIT students with the opportunity to participate in the research happening in the Department of Biological Engineering. Participants must be either permanent residents or US citizens. Applicants should be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program as a sophomore or junior with a major in biology, chemistry, or engineering, and have at least some experience with biology. In addition, only applicants with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 (4.00 scale) will be considered. While there is no strict policy regarding a minimum GPA, historically students with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or lower do not possess the level of competence needed to succeed in the program.
