First of all, I won't pretend I was at every hockey game this
year, but I did see a few important ones. I'm also not exactly a
layman when it comes to IM floor hockey here at UMBC (check Fall
2001 champs pic). Of all the games I saw this year, the game with
the bext two goaltenders was defeinately the semi-final match
between SAE and the Dawgs.
Michal Kuckera and Tim Ballor
respectively were the best I've seen in a while (since
Gonzo blew his ACL and Miniscus, however you spell
that thing). They were pretty darn good. Kuch even complimented Tim
after the loss saying that his glove was the quickest he's ever
seen. Of course they are baseball guys, but that's still a pretty
big compliment from a worthy adversary. And so the Dawgs victory
over SAE was one of the bigger upsets of the year. Though I must
note that SAE was playing without Cliff and
little Cliff (maybe his real name is
Scott, but I'm not sure). If they were there, the
outcome may have been very different. But they weren't, and so goes
intramurals. It was fitting that they were playing the victors of
another semi-final upset. The Predators beat the
unstoppable and possibly overconfident Ice Men in
the semis only to fall to Tim, George, and the rest of the Dawgs in
the finals. Congrats to both and I'll look forward to the Dawgs/SAE
basketball game this spring.

Once again, it's not the Americans that take home the
hockey title. Nor the Russians or even the Canucks. The trophy
belongs to the Phillipinos. Though not commonly known for their
hockey prowess worldwide, UMBC's Mufasa, a club of mostly people of
some sort of Phillipino descent, has dominated hockey for the past
few years, making the championship game for the past three years and
winning it all in the last two. And they're doing the same thing in
football. I think it's safe to say that they are probably the most
dominant team in coed intramurals in the past few years. Entering
the playoffs as a #3 seed with a 2-2 record, they managed to avenge
their only two losses during the season, beating Team
4-1 in the preliminaries and Team Screwed
8-3 in the championship game. Congratulations to
Balut once again. Now what will happen when
Janet and Eddie leaves will be
interesting. I'm sure losing Jeremy and
Chris won't help either.
