The purpose of the UMBC Recreation Program is to provide a variety of programs, facilities, and equipment for broad and diversified quality recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff, and RAC members.

The Recreation Program tries to create an atmosphere where the individual will be encouraged to expand personal interests in the activities of their choice. The general aim of the Recreation Program is to promote participation by the UMBC community in recreational activities regardless of age, sex, skill, or experience. Our intent is to provide opportunities for relaxation, achievement, friendship and loyalty to groups, competition, physical fitness, and fun.

The Intramural Sports Program makes it possible for men and women with a variety of interests and abilities to participate in informal sports contests on the UMBC campus. The Intramural Program offers UMBC students and faculty/staff the opportunity to participate in individual, dual, and team competition in seasonal and weekend tournament play. In order to meet the needs and interests of all potential participants, the program is designed to provide competitive and recreational experiences for participants of all skill levels and abilities. Participants have the opportunity to make up their own teams from friends, classmates, etc. If you cannot form a team, enter as an individual and we will place you with a team. Intramural registration can be done by dropping off the correct form to the Rec office.
The Office of RecSports is located in room 321 on the 3rd floor of the Retreiver Activities Center. The office is open from 9:00am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, or for specific information, call (410) 455-1540 or (410) 455-3122

The UMBC Sport Club Program, a division of the Office of RecSports, offers the campus community a wide variety of recreation, instruction, and competition in 24 sports and activities. In addition, it offers the campus an alternative to intramural, physical education, and intercollegiate competition. Currently, the clubs provide recreation to more than 500 students.

The level of competition varies for each club. Some clubs compete on a national level, while others offer a more relaxed setting. The Sport Club program plays an integral role in the educational setting within the university. Participation in the program gives the individual the opportunity to practice and participate in organized physical activities, testing skill through competition with clubs from other Universities.

The students' involvement in the program is designed to be enjoyable and educational, while developing friendships and new experiences as a result of participation. Participants and club coaches should uphold high ethical and moral standards while display of sportmanship, comradarie, and spirit are highly encouraged.
