Advising on Graduate School Planning
and Preparation
Over 1/3 of UMBC graduates immediately
go on to post-graduate study at other institutions,
including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and the Institute of
Archaeology in University College London. While many
graduate school applications are not due until January-March
of a student’s senior year, the earlier a student
can begin exploring the possibilities of graduate school,
the smoother the application process will be. Students
as early as their freshman and sophomore year can begin
researching the viability and necessity for post-graduate
study in their chosen fields and then begin researching
specific universities/academic programs and application
requirements.
The Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising provides a variety of resources to assist students with their post-graduate study exploration. Staff is also available to collaborate with academic departments and clubs on graduate/professional school preparation topics. In addition, the office offers a variety of workshop series each semester for graduate/professional school preparation.
For more information on advising resources to assist students in graduate school planning and preparation, contact Dr. Ken Baron - 410-455-8113 or email at kbaron@umbc.edu.
