EL-Civics Lesson Plans
These lesson plans are an outcome of Maryland's Spring 2009 EL-Civics training.

Bright Ideas
This 15-unit curriculum was designed for elderly learners participating in community-based ESL programs. The curriculum focuses on developing oral English communication skills and providing opportunities for learners to use these skills inside the classroom and outside in the community. Each unit contains step-by-step instructions for the teacher, lessons for the students, and visual support materials to facilitate learning for students who have few literacy skills in English and in the native language.

Bronx Community College EL Civics How-to Manual
The manual includes content on managing an EL/Civics program, curriculum development, successful instructional strategies, and information about useful print and media resources.

California English Literacy and Civics Education Web Site
This site includes objectives, training, and resources for planning and implementing EL/civic instruction.

Civic Participation and Community Action Sourcebook
Twenty stories about civic participation are included that cover a range of issues, from finding a class project and goal setting to meeting with legislators and advocating for adult education funding. Preparation activities accompany each article. The source book also contains a webliography and an appendix of human rights and civics documents.

C-Span Classroom
C-Span Classroom is an online reference to teach Civics and U.S. Government content to students. It also corresponds with the Cable Channels of C-SPAN.

An updated version of the EL/Civics State Leadership Project developed by Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning, Denver, Colorado.

Low Intermediate EL Civics Health Awareness Curriculum
This Fairfax County Adult & Education Curriculum focuses on communicating with health care providers, taking medications and staying healthy.

National Standards for Civic Education
The site focuses on civics instruction in K–12 contexts. It is also useful to teachers of adult English language learners both for its detailed overview of the rationale behind civics instruction and for its clearly organized outlines of specific areas of civics content.

Project-based Learning and Assessment Resource Manual
