The Ancient Studies Department offers an undergraduate major, with an honors option, and a minor. We also offer graduate-level classes for the accelerated combination B.A./M.A. program in Historical Studies.

| There are two ways to fulfill the language requirement; students only need to complete one. |
| Option I: |
| 3 credits of Latin or Greek at teh 300 level or above |
| Note: Students who have not previously talken Latin or Greek will need to take 101, 102, and 201 [4 credits each] in their chosen language before registering for a 300-level course. |
| Option II: |
| An Ancient Studies major may complete their program by completing Greek 201 or Latin 201 [4 credits each], plus any combination of two additional Language or Culture courses. All Culture courses for this option must be taught by a member of the Ancient Studies faculty. |
| Note: Students planning to enter graduate school after completion of the undergraduate degree must follow Option I and take more language courses than are required in that option. Students planning to teach Latin must take five courses [3 credits each] at the 300 level or above in Latin and receive a grade of "A" or "B" in each. Contact a faculty member for guidance. |
| Grading Requirement: |
| No course in which the student has earned a grade less than a "C" will count toward completion of the major. |

Honors Major
| There is an honors program designed for students who want to meet additional challenges, especially those who are considering graduate school. Students must choose Option I in the major requirements and meet additional requirements, including completing a minimum of 45 credits in courses for the major. A student must have at least a 3.5 GPA in Ancient Studies courses to become an Honors student, and is expected to declare their intention of completing the Honors program in their Junior year. |
| Additional Requirements: |
| Honors majors will take ANCS 498H and ANCS 499H [3 credits each] in their Senior year in order to complete an Honors thesis, which will be presented to the department for review. These two courses substitute for two upper-level courses required by the major. In addition to the general major program, Honors majors must take ANCS 399H [3 credits] and 6 credits of 300 or 400 level courses in Latin or Greek as well as 101 and 102 in the other language. |

Accelerated B.A./M.A. in Historical Studies
| The ancient studies department participates in the accelerated B.A./M.A. program in historical studies by offering courses at the 600 and 700 levels. Students interested in earning the B.A. in Ancient Studies and the M.A. in Historical Studies (with an emphasis on ancient history) should consult with the faculty of the History and Ancient Studies departments.
