An IT Education...Anytime, Anywhere

UMBC is expanding the reach of its information technology programs beyond a regional
presence to a national--and international--arena. In a partnership with the U.S. Open
University (USOU), a well-respected, non-profit, distance-learning
university, UMBC now offers an online master's degree in information systems,
designed to meet the needs of busy working professionals, wherever they may be.
This innovative pairing of UMBC's IT educational expertise with USOU's proven
distance-learning methods "gives us the ability to deliver our program to a much
wider audience," says Scott Bass, dean of the UMBC Graduate School and vice
provost for research.
USOU is the American sister school of The Open University, based in the United
Kingdom, which has more than 260,000 students in 41 countries enrolled in its
education programs. The USOU approach allows students to download their study
calendar and assignments from a specialized course website, enables them to
interact with their classmates and instructors via web conferencing, and
assigns a faculty member to provide feedback and one-on-one support. Supplementing
the online resources will be books, CD's, study guides, software, audio and
videotapes delivered directly to the student's home or office. For more
information about UMBC's online master's degree program, visit
