Counselors &
Junior Counselors

The UMBC Summer Day Camp's success relies heavily on the assistance of its Couselors & Junior Counselors.


Counselors

Counselors are typically UMBC students, graduates and local area teachers offering an array of child care skills. All couselors must be at least 18 years old, provide appropriate paper work and pass a criminal background screening. Applicants who meet all requirements will then be interviewed for specific counseling positions.

Junior Counselors

Junior Counselors learn how to be an effective leader through instruction and by working directy with their counselors and the children participating in the camp. Junior Counselors are at least 14 years old and are typically local area middle school and high school students looking to gain professional child care experience. Junior Couselors work on a volunteer basis while gaining community service hours for the state of Maryland High School requirements. Specific duties would include assisting counselors with supervising and teaching recreational activities, preparing daily activities and assisting with specific administration duties.

All documents must be submitted by Friday, April 17th to be considered for the position. All questions on the eligibility of the Junior Counselor should be forwarded to Jeff Moore as soon as possible.
