What are the division/levels
of competition?
The intramural events have participation
for men, women, and in most cases for co-rec play. Persons may
play on a men's women's team and may also participate on a co-rec
team in the sport. Teams may also decide which level of competition
that best suits their skill levels, either Competitive or Recreational.
Team sports are designed for league play followed by playoffs
at the end of the regular season for the top teams in each league.
The winning teams receive awards.
When are the Intramural
games played?
Most Intramural games and participation
takes place during the day and in the afternoon, depending on
the sport. Teams provide time availabilty sheets during the managers
meeting as to when they prefer not to play because of classes,
work, etc. and we attempt to schedule around these times. Most
of the activities take place Monday through Friday. There are
some events that are scheduled for the week-ends to provide recreational
opportunities during these times.
How can I get a specific
schedule?
You can pick up a specific Intramural
schedule at the start of each semester. It will give information
on each event that includes entry due date, general information,
starting date, cost, etc. This is available on the Intramural
bulletin board located within the RAC, in the Rec Sports Office,
in the Commons, and also on the UMBC Intramural Website.

Where are the intramurals
played?
The Retrievers Activity Center is
fortunate enough to have great facilities. These are used for
Intramurals, Athletics, Physical Education classes, and general
student use. The RAC Gym offers 3 full-court or 9 single baskets
for open basketball. In addition, each court can be set up for
Volleyball or Indoor Tennis courts. During the semesters, Intramural
Sports use the gym for sports like Indoor Soccer, Arena Football,
Foul Shooting and Free-Throw contests, Full-Court Basketball,
Volleyball 6 vs. 6, Intramural Tennis, Intramural Floor Hockey,
and European Team Handball. In addition, the RAC uses the Gym
Floor for Volleyball, and other indoor tournaments. UMBC has separate
fields for softball and flag football. All of these areas enhance
the student's recreational opportunities at UMBC.
Who makes up intramural
teams?
Teams are made in many different
ways. Some include clubs, organizations, fraternities, sororities,
residence halls or floors, etc. A large number of teams are independents,
meaning they are not any specific group, but just a bunch of friends
that want to play together.
How can I get involved
in intramurals?
There are many different ways that
you can become involved. Some different ways are through any clubs
or organizations that you may be a member. You can also contact
the University Residential Assistant on your floor if you are
living in University Housing. Sometimes it may just take "YOU"
to start a team of your own. There are plenty of people that want
to play, such as friends, roommates, classmates, etc. They are
just waiting to be asked. You can also sign up as a Free Agent
and we can have you placed on a team.
You can register online from our website at http://www.umbc.edu/athletics/Recreation/Intramurals/.
You may also register through flyers posted around campus. You
can find them located in the RAC, The Commons and outside the
Rec Sports Office (RAC 321).
Are there intramural jobs
available?

etc. Experience is not required, as training sessions are provided
for most activities. Those interested should fill out an application
