How The Wiki Works
Not Everything Can Be Edited
This page is an example of that. It has been locked to prevent anyone from changing its text. Pages that can be edited will have a link at the bottom of the page saying "Edit this page"
Editing Is A One-At-A-Time Thing
When you click on "Edit this page" QwikiWiki puts a lock on the page making it possible for only you to edit it. Anyone else will no longer see the button. While you are editing it you can save intermediate versions (a "Save" button on the editing page) or finish editing by pushing a "Done" button.
If you forget and don't push the "Done" button, your lock will automatically expire a short while later. But always remember to unlock the page when you're done!
How Do I Make A Link To A New Page?
When you want to make a new page, place the name of that page surrounded by underlines someplace in an existing page. For example, you could type: "I wonder _How_The_Wiki_Works_" and that would be rendered "I wonder How The Wiki Works?". If a page by this name doesn't exist already, QwikiWiki creates the blue question mark as a link to the new page.
When you finish editing your page you can click on the question mark and you will be taken to an empty new page, in this case entitled "How The Wiki Works". On that page it will say: "This page does not yet exist or has been deleted. Click Edit this page to create." Do so and you will go to an editing page entitled "Editing: How The Wiki Works".
Adding Links To An Existing Page
The same process will make links to existing pages. Enter exactly the name of the page surrounded by underlines ("_How_The_Wiki_Works_" and click "Done". You will see the page now with the link underlined and in blue (How The Wiki Works).
Showing Authorship
For the purposes of this class, at the bottom of the page you should identify yourself as the author. The issue of privacy is not resolved yet, so we may need to have pseudonyms instead of real names. At the bottom of the page, you will insert a comment:
