Professional Interests
After graduating from UMBC, Dr. Behrens continued his work on photorespiration and its affects on photo synthesis at Martin Marrietta Laboratories. He subsequently left there to form Martek Biosciences, a biotechnology company focused on using microalgae to produce high-value products. He continues to work at Martek and is also an Adjunct Professor at UMBC, teaching Plant Biology to undergraduates.
