Catholic Charities seeks an Assistant Director of Social Concerns

Advises the agency on social policy advocacy takes leadership roles in coalitions to advance positions of mutual interest, implements advocacy strategies pertinent to the basic needs of disadvantaged people. Works in collaboration with Parish Social Ministry staff to enhance parishioners’ knowledge of social concerns issues and encourage their participation in advocacy efforts while adhering to the policies and values of Catholic Charities. Plans and recommends to the Director advocacy strategies based on that research. Drafts issue papers and other research documents for use by the agency in deciding advocacy positions. Builds and or/provides leadership to coalitions and networks of other advocacy groups when those groups’ objectives coincide with those of Catholic Charities. Serves as liaisons with state, local, private agencies, and community organizations on issues of mutual concern. Represents Catholic Charities’ positions on advisory boards, task forces and commissions relevant to issues of concern. Serves as a resource to the agency in response to internal requests for research and advice on social issues. Masters degree and at least two years experience in advocacy or public administration, public policy or Bachelors degree and four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational ability, ability to work independently, excellent judgment, knowledge of Catholic social teachings and of internal parish relationships required. This position requires the ability to interact effectively with persons served by Catholic Charities, parishioners and parish staff, community leaders and state and local officials
