The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, a non-profit research and education foundation is looking for a full-time Research Assistant to join an Immunology Laboratory that focuses on the development and testing of bacterial vaccines to food-borne diseases. The selected candidate will work in a team at the Enteric Diseases Department, Naval Medical Research Center, Silver Spring, MD. Research in this laboratory is focused on identification of key bacterial vaccine candidates using in vitro assays, animal modeling, and immunoassay screening of human blood samples from vaccine clinical trials. Duties include but are not limited to vaccination of small laboratory animals and sample collection/processing, processing of human blood samples, performance of a range of immunoassays, maintenance of accurate records of experimental procedures and data, and communication of summarized data to team members/supervisory staff.
The candidate must have a Bachelors in Biology, Microbiology or a related science, with 0-2 year’s laboratory experience. Training will be provided, but experience with animal handling and the conduct of immunoassays such as ELISAs and ELISPOTs is preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills are expected.
