Programming opportunity in computational tools for protein and gene discovery and bioinformatics at UMBC.
Two positions are available immediately to participate in the development of computational tools for bioinformatics in the laboratory of Dr. Maricel Kann
(http://umbc.edu/biosci/general/user/mkann).
The candidate, an advanced undergraduate, recent graduate or Master's student, should have a background in
Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Biology, or related field with strong computational/programming skills. Mastery of scientific programming (C, C++, Perl, Python, etc), web developing and database management (Oracle, MySQL) is highly preferred.
The candidate is expected to become involve and contribute significantly to the development of computational
methods and tools for the analysis of biological sequences and the discovery of the underlying causes of disease in a variety of projects.
Non-US citizen candidates need to
be eligible to work under his/her current student visa or optional practical training period.
There are two positions, both on UMBC campus:
1- is a permanent position to work from 20-40 HS/ week, available immediately for 6 months and renewable subject to performance. Please use the words
"CS position-permanent" in the Subject field.

2-a temporary position, up to 20 HS/ week available immediately to work during the winter break (until end of January). Please use the words
"CS position-temp" in the Subject field.
