The Maryland Zoo is seeking to hire a full-time Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper to provide assistance to all areas of the Finance Department and support the general ledger
maintenance. The Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper will assist in preparation of reports to provide timely sales and attendance data to management, assist in preparation of bank reconciliations, and assist in preparation of general ledger account reconciliations. The qualified candidate for this position will assist in preparation of analyses of cash flows to assist in development of cash projections, be responsible for maintenance of processing logs and ongoing tracking schedules for bank account activity, and assist in processing of Accounts Payable. Other responsibilities include assisting in processing of bi-weekly payroll, using third party payroll vendor, preparing journal entries, and preparing daily, weekly and monthly sales reports. This person will also communicate with Accounting and other zoo personnel regarding various accounting issues. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent or equivalent experience work required; At least four years in a professional office environment; Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel; and, Experience with bank reconciliations and account analyses.
Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, radio, etc. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
