Part-time reading tutors needed for September 2008 - February 2009
Tutors are sought to work individually with struggling adolescent readers in a federally funded reading research study. After receiving training (August/September 2008), tutors meet at least twice a week with their assigned middle/high school students.
Typically, tutoring takes place after school, Monday – Friday (**tutors need to be available at least two days):
Laurel: 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm
Baltimore area: 2:45 pm - 5:00 pm; there may be some before school and during school tutoring slots available
Each tutor typically works 6 to 18 hours/week, depending on the number of students tutored. Starting pay is $16.00 per hour.
Applicants for tutoring positions must:
--have experience or college coursework in education, adolescent development,
psychology, or related fields;
--be able to work well with students in 6th to 12th grade, including those with attentional, emotional, or learning difficulties;
--have excellent command of both spoken and written English; and
--be comfortable using computers, email, and audio recorders.
