The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore seeks an enthusiastic Instructor to join our team! The Junior Zoo Crew Instructor will supervise up to fifty (50) fourteen to seventeen year olds for a six-week summer service-learning program. The primary function of this position is to plan and lead educational sessions about topics related to wildlife and conservation that will guide the students through their day; plan and implement pre-program training sessions for participants with involvement from current docents; planning, organizing and scheduling activities such as EdZoocation stations and other service opportunities with involvement from Education, Animal and other departments; meet with Zoo staff for feedback on participants’ performance and advocate for participants’ needs and interests; plan, coordinate and supervise special field trips and activities (for example, National Aquarium Exchange, National Zoo visit and other volunteer activities) and understand and follow all Zoo, AZA and other regulating organization policies and procedures.
This person will be required to keep detailed daily attendance records and follow up on attendance problems with participants’ parents/guardians.
