The primary functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: delivering educational content about nature, wildlife and conservation through formal classroom and auditorium programs on and off Zoo grounds in alignment with state and national education standards; engaging and educating guests, school groups, and general public with the use of artifacts, animals and hands-on activities in an informal setting; this type of program may include guided tours, Educational Outposts, and community events. This person will also be responsible for developing and evaluating educational programs and activities, preparing printed educational materials, developing, writing and adapting educational activities and literature that extend and enhance the educational value of Zoo programs, and participating in continuing education opportunities to improve upon content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills.
Other duties include but are not limited to: undertaking Animal Handling Training, teaching ecology, biology and conservation issues of Animal Ambassadors; regularly updating Animal Handling skills and knowledge; maintaining a working knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures; understanding, reviewing and implementing the Zoo�s safety rules and standards at all times; and, working with Animal Program staff to use Animal Ambassadors in programs. This position is PART TIME and offers up to 25 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, education or related fields preferred; Experience working with public preferred; Teaching in an informal setting and/or public speaking preferred; Animal handling experience preferred, training provided; Valid drivers license, and clean driving record required; Curriculum development for an informal setting preferred and working knowledge of Windows programs preferred; Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; Must be able to stand up to 8 hours per day, walk up to 6 hours per day and sit up to 2 hours per day; Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions; Must be able to safely operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer, telephone, radio, vehicles, including a large passenger van and golf cart, hand tools, animal restraint and capture devices, incubators, gardening/carpentry tools and machinery, computer, scales, etc. TB test and background check required
Daily contact with plants and animals including being subject to bites, stings and scrapes possible.
