Community Liaison (Part-Time; On-Campus)

The Office of Graduate Student Life (OGSL) is operated by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to meet the needs of graduate students as they pursue degrees at the master’s and doctoral levels in all disciplines at UMBC. The following position is currently available for the 2009-2010 academic year:

COMMUNITY LIAISON

The Community Liaison will provide information on University policies and procedures and refer graduate students to services offered on campus, intercepting problems among the graduate student population, through direct student contact or in conjunction with GSA Board and Senate members, and working toward solutions with the appropriate campus offices. The Community Liaison will also work to address campus-wide graduate student concerns, help develop conflict resolution strategies and skills among graduate student leaders, and represent GSA at campus wide committees. The Community Liaison is a member of the OGSL and is expected to assist the OGSL and GSA in its mission of supporting and promoting graduate students. The Community Liaison offers support to the Executive Director as well as the Administrative Coordinator and the Travel Grants Administrator.

Requirements
• Work 20 hours in the GSA office
• Attend OGSL/GSA meetings, monthly GSA senate meetings, monthly campus committee meetings, and all Graduate School sponsored events, including but not limited to; Fall & Spring Orientation, Open House, Success Seminars, Graduate Student Week events, and the Graduate Research Conference.
• Have a working knowledge of the policies of the Graduate School, GSA, and OGSL
• Miscellaneous office work as necessary
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point critical
