It's increasingly tempting in this web age to sit in front of a computer and let your fingers do the walking.

Many people assume that if they scan enough job boards, email a ton of recruiters and work LinkedIn and Twitter like crazy that their next job will magically appear in their in-box.

The truth is that while working the web is essential to any job search these days, it shouldn't come at the expense of doing it the old-fashioned way.

You've got to get out of the house, meet face-to-face with hiring managers and network with as many people as you can.

Women For Hire fall career fairs---now in our 11th year---offer the perfect forum to do that.

So take a break from the web, leave your house and join us in Washington, DC on Thursday, October 29. Details available at: http://www.womenforhire.com/career_expos/fall_2009/washington_dc

SEMINARS
Job seekers, plan on attending these career-enhancing seminars. The seminar schedule will be posted shortly.

Presented by the Southeastern PA Workforce Investment Boards:
The College-Career Connection: There is a need for more college educated workers. Labor market analysts predict that over 70% of all new jobs will require a college degree. Working adults who don’t yet have a degree certainly understand the importance of a college credential for their professional development, but they ask: What degree should I pursue? Which is the best college? How do I pay for it? Many also harbor two additional issues: fear of the unknown and inadequate academic preparedness. This session will introduce a framework for answering these questions in a way that optimizes opportunities and addresses barriers upfront.

Hot Jobs: Despite the challenging economic times, there are companies from key industries in the Delaware Valley Region that are still in need of skilled workers. This session will include representatives from those companies who will share the skills, competencies, and credentials necessary to secure employment with their organization.

Secrets to Landing a Job In Tough Economic Times: Securing a job that matches your skills and interest has always required a committed effort. However, in these tough economic times, that effort has increased. This session will include the things you can do to help set you apart from the pack. Tips for searching for the right job, developing a eye-catching resume, and giving a dynamic interview will all be discussed during this session.

The Green Jobs Sector: There has been a great deal of buzz about “green jobs;” buzz at the local, state and national levels. What is a green job? What is the green economy? This session will provide information about the green jobs sectors, the types of jobs it comprises, the industries that are included, and the skills and credentials needed to participate in the emerging Green Economy.

Presented by CampusPhilly:
Selling Yourself: Resumes that Stand Out: Job seekers need a competitive edge to get themselves noticed. In this seminar, the nonprofit Campus Philly teaches you how to showcase your skills and experience through your resume and cover letter to break through the clutter. Event Information

Women For Hire Job Fair

Thursday, Feb. 19
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Almas Temple at Hamilton Crowne Hotel
1315 K Street, NW
Washington, D.C. 20005

Mark your calendar: Women For Hire returns to Washington, D.C. Feb. 19. *

Now celebrating our 10th anniversary, Women For Hire will feature dozens of top employers who are on the lookout for smart and savvy women like you at our first event of 2009.

In a tough job market, nothing beats face-to-face contact between job seekers and employers. Online websites and job boards are fine tools, but any career coach will tell you that the single best way to get a job is to get in front of decision-makers.

For over a decade, Women For Hire has proven time and time again that women stand a much better chance of landing the jobs they want when they have a high-caliber, professional forum to network with other women, get free advice on their resumes and meet one-on-one with America's top employers.

These are difficult and anxious times—and some experts continue to beat the drum of negativity by saying virtually no companies are hiring. That is simply not true.

Which is why on Feb. 19 you'll find top employers across all industries eager to hire qualified women and get others in their pipeline at Women For Hire's Washington, D.C. expo.

Additonal details at http://www.womenforhire.com/career_expos/spring_09/washington_dc . We hope to see you soon in our nation's capital.

19 you'll find top employers across all industries eager to hire qualified women and get others in their pipeline at Women For Hire's Washington, D.C. expo.

We hope to see you soon in our nation's capital.
