Teach For America is hosting an online event to highlight our employer partnerships on Tuesday, 4/21. Teach For America’s 15 employer partners—including Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Google—value the leadership skills and experience that distinguish Teach For America corps members. To read about the partnerships these organizations have built with our non-profit, see our website at http://www.teachforamerica.org/alumni/employer_partnerships.htm.
The event on the 21st is a great opportunity to hear the perspectives of Teach For America alumni Rex Farrand (NYC ’06 & Goldman Sachs employee) & Jenny Tsai (NYC ’07 & Google deferral), ask questions about their experiences, and get more details about pursuing a career path with both Teach For America and one of our employer partners. Just click the hyperlink below to register, and you can attend the event using any computer and any phone.
I hope you can join us!

*Join Us in New York for Career 2009 Boot Camp *
Anyone in career services knows that the worst job market in 30 years has created no small amount of anxiety in the Class of 2009. They’re concerned about what’s in store for them job-wise, how they’re going to launch their career and whether their major has adequately prepared them for such tough times.
Women For Hire has the answer: Career 2009 Boot Camp, an intensive, two-day program in New York City June 3-4 that's designed to teach new grads everything they need to know to launch their careers in this recession. The program is co-ed.
At Career Boot Camp 2009, grads will meet dozens of recruiters and industry executives from media, marketing, advertising, human resources, fashion, finance, green energy, health care, non-profits, technology and more.
They will come away with actionable tools and connections to launch their careers in the weak economy, including how the recruiting and hiring process works, contact information for employers they meet and a realistic idea of today’s job market.
*Pros will host seminars on:*
• Standing out from the competition, guarding your professionalism online, acing the toughest interview and nailing the follow up.
• Business etiquette, professionalism and networking, negotiating compensation, the inside scoop on hiring and what recruiters want.
Industry leaders from *ABC News, Avon, CBS, Ernst & Young, ESPN, Estee Lauder, Etsy, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York Times, Pfizer, Salvatore Ferragamo* and more will discuss career options and paths. Graduate school administrators will evaluate the pros and cons of getting post grad degrees in law, business and more.
Recent college grads will share the dirt on entry level positions and how to make a realistic transition from college to work, and the highs and lows of life on the job.

Sunday, February 22nd @ UMBC.
(sponsored by the UMBC Golden Key International Society)
On Sunday, February 22nd, the UMBC Golden Key Society is holding a FREE opportunity for students to take a practice GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, DAT, OAT or PCAT. The event will be held on UMBC's campus on the first floor of Sondheim Hall. It is open to anyone who would like to take a practice test, even if you are not a UMBC student.
Each test will last up to 4 hours and will be proctored like an actual exam. After the test, guest instructors will give a short workshop on test-taking strategies and answer questions.
This is a great opportunity for students to see how they might score on the real thing, and also to get an idea of the kinds of questions that will be on the real test. The tests will be scored and returned to the students at a later date with computerized feedback about their individual performance on the test.
To sign up for the event, you just need to register at www.kaptest.com OR send an email to Kaplan.Baltimore@gmail.com with your name, number, email address, graduation year and test you wish to take.
Before the event, we will send you an e-mail confirming your registration and giving you the location and time for your test.
Again, this is a completely FREE event and a great opportunity for anyone interested in going to grad, business, law, med, dental, optometry, or pharmacy school in the next few years!

College Seniors CAN Thrive in This Job Market Webinar
Wednesday, February 11
2-3pm
Commons 331
Join the UMBC Career Services Center in this free webinar, hosted by Susan Kennedy
Career Treking LLC.
Hiring in 2009 is projected to decrease eight percent for newly minted college graduates and 10 percent for MBAs, from 2008 levels. An abundance of qualified, experienced talent and the largest number of graduating seniors ever present stiff competition for fewer openings. Despite the above-mentioned doom and gloom, there are some encouraging industry projections. Are you feeling stuck at work or in life?
Have you ever questioned if you have made the right career decisions?
Have you ever wondered if there is a better career match for you?
Finding the right career ultimately means knowing what you are passionate about. Whether it's through work, school or personal activities, knowing your passions helps you to focus your energies, find happiness in every day and feel more fulfilled. We should all strive to find work that we love.
The UMBC CSC will host two day workshop helps you to do just that! Unlike other career assessments and workshops, you'll be able to assess your strengths and identify what you enjoy, things that you do well and events or experiences in which you take pride. It motivates you to succeed. Ultimately by learning more about yourself through this process, you open up new opportunities.
The workshop is designed for alumni who are seeking a career change, have been downsized from their current profession or are simply interested in exploring how they might enhance their current employment situation. Your registration also includes one follow-up appointment with one of your facilitators.
This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about what your true strengths are so that you can find your passion and finally find work that you love!
