Last August, directors from the Instituto Guatemalteco-Americano – the Binational Center in Guatemala – visited the English Language Center. The IGA’s Executive Director, Ms. Ana Sylvia Ramirez, and Academic Director, Ms. Rina de Gongora, met with the ELC’s directors to explore opportunities for collaboration, including customized professional development programs for IGA instructors and staff, intensive English programs for IGA students, exchange programs and internships.
As a token of appreciation, Ms. Ana Sylvia Ramirez gave the ELC a beautifully hand-embroidered guipil, now proudly displayed in the ELC reception area.
The photos show Ms. Ana Sylvia Ramirez and Ms. Rina de Gongora with Dr. Fernando Fleurquin, ELC Director; Sarah Gardenghi, ELC Assistant Director for Student Services; Heather Linville, ELC Academic Director; and Dr. John Nelson, co-director of UMBC’s ESOL/Bilingual MA Program.
Ana Sylvia and Rina, thank you for such a beautiful gift!
