UMCES-IMET delegates at the 10th Annual International Marine Biotechnology Conference (IMBC), November 11-15, 2013, in Brisbane, Australia. More than 300 delegates attended the conference from more than 20 countries. IMET Director, Dr. Russell Hill, is the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Marine Biotechnology Association (IMBA) that organizes the IMBCs. IMET Assistant Director, Dr. Nick Hammond, was active at the conference, enrolling founder members in the IMBA. Drs. Tsetso Bachvaroff, Sook Chung and Rose Jagus were among the keynote speakers. Graduate students, Jeanette Davis, Ryan Powell, Jan Vicente and Fan Zhang, gave oral presentations. Jan Vicente was awarded a runner-up prize for his presentation “Diversity and functionality of microbial symbionts associated with a two-sponge symbiosis in the Caribbean”.
