Hours: Normal department hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are willing to work with the intern on schedule, but we would prefer a minimum of 12 hours a week.

Description: We invite you to join the Marketing and Communications Department at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, a thriving community hospital in the Baltimore Washington corridor that is part of the University of Maryland Medical System. We are looking for a communications student who is quick on his or her feet, up to date on the latest social media sites, has excellent interpersonal and writing skills and is willing to learn more about healthcare while promoting what our growing medical center has to offer. As an intern, you will learn about all aspects of the department – advertising, media relations, internal communications, physician relations, community outreach, graphic design and Web maintenance.

Background: Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) is a 298-bed acute care hospital that is part of the University of Maryland Medical System. BWMC sees more than 19,000 inpatients a year and more than 90,000 Emergency Department patients a year. In 2007, Solucient® named BWMC a “100 Top Hospital®,” an honor recognizing hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, efficiency, and growth in patient volume. The medical center also recently expanded its Emergency Department (one of the busiest in the state) and opened a new patient care building, with 111 private patient beds and increased critical care capacity. A new obstetrics unit is scheduled to open in the fall.
