Trainer Professional Development Program
The Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) program provides trainers the opportunity to deepen and expand their skills on integrating technology in their teacher training to positively impact teaching and learning. MIE participants will leave the two-day event with tools and training materials that support engaging, hands-on professional development.
These seminars are designed for trainers who have responsibilities for training educators on the integration of technology in the classroom. It is encouraged to have small teams (2-3) from schools and districts attend as there will be time set aside to develop a professional development action plan that can be used to train teachers how to incorporate Microsoft technologies into teaching and learning.
Teams attending should include those who have a responsibility for developing and/or implementing professional development in their district/region/state. Specifically, a strong team would include any combination of people representing education roles, including education technology director, curriculum integration specialist, administrator, teacher trainer, or master teacher leader.
Seminar benefits ¬
In addition to learning new hands-on project-based, student-centered activities for K-12 classrooms, attendees will receive:
• Microsoft Innovative Educator certificate
• Free access to professional development curriculum for your use in your district
• Support from the Microsoft Partners in Learning Network community
• Eligibility for clock or credits hours (will vary by state)
What to Bring
Seminars are held at Microsoft offices (unless indicated otherwise) and laptops will be available during the training. Attendees will be asked to share a best practice using a Microsoft tool (Office, Windows, or free tools) during the training.
Before the workshop, please make sure you have:
• Registered for the Partners in Learning Network (PiLN), http://www.pil-network and join the Microsoft Teacher Trainers community discussion.
• If you do not have an active Windows Live ID, you will be connected to the site to sign-up for one before returning to the PiLN. Create a new email account or use your existing Hotmail, Messenger, or Xbox LIVE Windows Live ID account.
Continue the training
We’ve designed these seminars for teams of education professionals who teach or train other professionals. Each seminar attendee commits to:
• Attending a follow-up webinar with the seminar facilitator and other attendees.
• Delivering teacher professional development activities in the upcoming school year to between 100 and 500 teachers within your school, district or state based on content from this seminar.
• Contribute at least 3 teacher professional development best practices to the Partners in Learning Network, Microsoft Teacher Professional Development Community.
Agenda (2-day)
Each Microsoft Innovative Educator seminar will vary slightly. Coffee and juice in the morning and lunch will be provided, though public sector employees will need to provide a signed letter acknowledging they can accept these items due to federal gift-giving regulations. Details on this will be sent with your confirmation to the seminar.

Data Storage Day at the USENIX LISA Conference
You are invited to the 2013 USENIX/LISA Data Storage Day, an event focused on the latest trends in data storage technologies at the Large Installation Systems Administration Conference on November 6th, 2013. LISA is the premier conference for hands-on system administrators, where the presentations are delivered by industry experts (i.e., the people who write the technical books and articles), not by product manufacturers.
The program is offered at no-cost to IT professionals.
Lecture Topics:
• Storage Virtualization and the Evolution of Storage Networking
• Application and File System Acceleration with Solid State Storage
• A Crash Course on Object-Based Storage
Who is the intended audience and will it be worth your time? The lecture materials are intended for a hands-on technical audience: system administrators, disaster recovery planners, data center managers, etc. The content assumes a working knowledge of storage, backup system principles, networks and servers. The course content is particularly useful to those who are responsible for architecture and for general IT strategy.
Why is the event at-no cost to me? The LISA Conference is put on by the USENIX Association in cooperation with LOPSA. Both institutions are world-class non-profit organizations, and as an IT professional, they are making this content available to you. We are offering this program at no cost to help promote the LISA conference and these organizations. Our hope is that you will be thoroughly impressed by the quality of the course content and consider participating in future activities and events.
Do you have to take a full day out of the office or can you catch just a portion? The program runs from 9:00am to 3:15pm, but it is broken down into 3 separate lectures with a lunch break in the middle. Feel free to arrive late or leave early.
For more information go to LISA
