The UMBC Symphony will present a concert of works by Dvorak, Ives, and Verdi on April 26 at 8 PM in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Elizabeth Shin, a winner of the 2009 UMBC Concerto Competition,will be the featured soloist.
Elizabeth began her cello studies at the age of 10. She worked with Bai-Chi Chen at the Peabody Preparatory where she was principal cellist of the Sinfonietta Orchestra. Elizabeth attended All State Orchestra for 6 years and was selected to participate in the prestigious All Eastern Orchestra in 2003. She has participated in numerous summer festivals including Aria International Music Institute in Canada and the Indiana University String Academy, where she was the winner of the concerto competition. Currently, Elizabeth is principal cellist of the UMBC Symphony Orchestra and is a recipient of the 2009 Achievement Award in Music. She is currently studying cello with Professor Gita Ladd at UMBC. Elizabeth is in her last semester at UMBC as a Music Education major and is currently student teaching in Howard County.
