Windows Vista and Office 2007 Update

OIT has received questions from the community regarding the available of Vista and Office 2007 for home purchase through the Bookstore.

The Bookstore has ordered this through our campus Microsoft partner and expects to receive the media for Vista and Office 2007 the first week of May and will begin selling it then. Pricing has not been finalized but it is expected to be similar to the cost of purchasing XP or Office 2003 professional today.

For institutional machines, OIT does not recommend moving to Vista at this point in time. There are many applications that we support that do not work with Vista.

In terms of Office 2007, we want to alert the community that the default document format for Office 2007 is not backward compatible with previous version of Office. If you move to Office 2007 please save you documents in the Office 2003 format.

OIT will be contracting with Training Centers to offer some introductory Office 2007 training classes to staff and faculty over the summer.
