We would like to take a minute to thank all of the Faculty, Staff and Students that have participated in the testing phase of our RHEL5 images (OIT Labs and GL tester). It has been very helpful. Our plan as we upgrade or go into a new image in the future is to continue to have a 2 week test period built into the schedule, fix any issues and then release/upgrade. We feel this produces a better final result.
The OIT Lab image was buttoned up and given to the OIT Desktop group this past Monday (20th). They are in the process of imaging our labs for the start of school next Wednesday (29th). We are finalizing the last few fixes from the testers, getting those out, and setting plans to do the upgrade to the GL Linux servers.
Between Friday 8/24/07 and Tuesday 8/28/07 our plan is to pull a single GL Linux server out from behind the load balancer (at a time), upgrade it and put it back into place. This means that while individual servers will be down, going to linux.gl will get you onto one of the remaining servers that are up and functioning. We ask that you please continue to connect to linux.gl instead of individual system names to ensure you get to the right systems.
As always, if you have any issues with the servers or our lab systems, please start a ticket with our Help Desk. Please include the system you are on and as much detail as you can about the problem. It will then get moved to the group that can best handle it for you.
