Active Directory Fileservice Maintenance Outage - 9/28/07

On Friday September 28, starting at 7pm, all Active Directory based file and print resources will be taken offline and unavailable until Sunday September 30th at 4pm. All network drives, drives H through Z, and all network printers, those printers not connected to your pc via a cable, will be unavailable for use. This downtime is necessary to complete an upgrade to our Active Directory infrastructure as OIT transitions to new servers and storage.

Computers and printers attached to Active Directory will need to be rebooted on Monday before use. This will allow the printers to reattach to the cluster and allow people to remap their network drives if they have stayed logged in over the weekend.

This outage will also affect Windows profiles in the OIT managed computer labs. Users who must access documents or files stored on their Windows desktops or the "My Documents" folder should move this content to a removable device, or their AFS-based "S:" drive.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the helpdesk at x53838.

Will I be able to login into my pc?
Yes, you will still be able to login to your pc, just not access any network
drives or printers.

Will I have access to my H: or I: drives?
No, these are network drives and they will be offline for the duration of
the upgrade.

Will I have access to my office printers?
You will not have access to any network printer. However, any printer which
is attached to your computer via a cable you will still be able to print to.

Will I be able to use the terminal server for remote access?
No, the terminal server will be taken offline for the duration of the
upgrade.

Will I still be able to use OIT's computer labs during this work?
Yes!

Will I be able to print from the labs?
Pay-for-print services in the OIT labs and the Library should be unaffected.

Will I see any errors when using the lab computers?
You may see a warning about not being able to access your roaming profile, otherwise, the labs should function normally.
