Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to discuss technical changes and other things of interest to the SysCore group, other OIT administrators, and the UMBC community. The SysCore group handles a wide variety of systems and projects, such as the campus portal (myUMBC), Blackboard servers, identity managment system, AFS fileservice, central web servers, and email service. Other, less widely used systems, include the Oracle Calandar service, the Remedy trouble-ticket system, central research computing resources (titan & hercules), and general shell login service. In our remaining free time, we also maintain open source software distributions that are used througout campus.
As it turns out, since we're always busy doing this and that, our communication -- both within our group and to those outside -- has been lacking. This is an attempt to address that.

I heard the rumor mill circulating about getting movable type working, and this is an awesome use for that!

Is myUMBC an in-house written system?

Yes, MyUMBC is inhouse, written all in perl. We're currently involved in a project to replace it with uPortal.
