USDemocrazy.net Site Explores U.S. Electoral System

Confused about how an American democracy works? You are not alone.

A new Web site – www.USDemocrazy.net -- designed by Economist magazine cartoonist Kevin “Kal” Kallaugher, artist-in-residence at UMBC, aims to demystify and explore America’s crazy 50-state democracy in a fun and engaging way.

Two UMBC Professors Win NSF CAREER Awards

Two UMBC scientists were recently recognized as among the nation’s top young faculty in their fields by the National Science Foundation (NSF), receiving the NSF’s CAREER award, an honor that comes with five years of research funding and support.



Theodosia Gougousi, assistant professor of physics, is helping to find the next-generation hearts of consumer electronics. Haijun Su, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, uses 3-D virtual reality to make design innovations faster and cheaper for manufacturers.

UMBC's President Hrabowski Named One of the "10 Best College Presidents" by Time Magazine

President Freeman Hrabowski, one of the Time’s 10 Best College Presidents in the U.S.

In its November 13 issue, President Hrabowski is featured in a list that includes presidents from Ohio State University, New York University, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Arizona State University, Tulane University, Middlebury College, Miami Dade College, University of Texas at Brownsville and University of California Oakland.

"This recognition reflects the campus's success and the high quality of the academic experience here," said President Hrabowski. "It's an honor for each of us to be a member of the UMBC community."

In the Time article, President Hrabowski states, ”We’re working to build a university that has first-rate research across all disciplines.”
