An immediate opening exists for a post-doctoral research associate in THz science in the Department of Physics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). With seed funding from the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) and in collaboration with the University of Maryland, College Park, the Maryland Center of Excellence in THz Science and Applications (MCTSA) is being established. This Center will focus its research efforts on the use of THz radiation in fundamental studies of materials, the development of new and improved methods to generate, detect, and manipulate THz radiation, and the development of technologies based on THz science for applications in the fields of security, defense, biotechnology, and communications. Applicants should contact Prof. Michael Hayden (hayden@umbc.edu; http://userpages.umbc.edu/~hayden/polymers.html).
Requirements
Self-motivated scientists with a PhD in Physics, EE or a related science are sought. Candidates should have an outstanding experimental research record in: ultrafast lasers, terahertz science and applications, nonlinear optics, fiber lasers, and spectroscopy. Experience with design and simulation software ((RSoft, Comsol), automation software (Labview), and analysis tools (Matlab, Mathematica) is highly desirable.
