3D Graphic Artist – Medical Simulation

Job Summary: A graphic artist internship position is available at the National Capital Area Medical Simulation Center, Uniformed Services University. The individual will assist in the development of 3D virtual environment models (terrain, buildings, vehicles, and people), as well as 3D virtual patient models for medical training.
Context: Located in the Greater Washington D.C. Metro area, the National Capital Area Medical Simulation Center (SimCen) is part of the Uniformed Services University (USU). The SimCen focuses on the use and development of simulation for medical education, and is the nation’s largest integrated simulation facility of its kind. The SimCen has one of nation’s largest arrays of computer-based simulators in routine use for surgical and medical training. The SimCen is expanding its computer-based simulation capability. Its current funded research projects the development of new simulators for cricothyroidotomy, intracranial hematoma, pulmonary artery catheterization, and situational team training. Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate should have the following qualities,
- Experience using art 3D development tools (3DMax, Maya, Photoshop, etc.), either in a commercial or student environment.
- Ability to animate realism with a high degree of visual fidelity.
- An ability to create high quality character and object animations.
- A creative flair, as evidenced in prior work or current portfolio.
- An ability to work independently and deliver according to schedule.
The following qualities are highly desirable:
- Working toward a BA degree in an Arts related field (Computer Animation, Computer Art, Digital Media).
- Good hand drawing & story boarding skills
- Good knowledge of human anatomy
- Experience in motion capture animation.
- Experience in 3D key-frame animation.
