UMBC Students are a talented and diverse group! Local schools (elementary, middle, and high schools) in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel County recognize you as a great resource and have reached out to The Shriver Center in search of individuals who are interested in volunteering a wide range of ways:
- During the school day in one-on-one or small group settings to help struggling students with their classes
- "Coaching" high school students who have not "met expectations" with the Maryland High School Assessment (small stipend provided)
- After school with additional tutoring
- Creating/Leading after-school clubs
- Saturday school (with charter/transformative schools) in all areas mentioned above!
All content areas are welcomed, as some students have very basic needs!
By volunteering 3-5 hours per week, you can receive a notation on your transcript for service-learning which is a zero-credit, pass/fail opportunity. For more information, contact Lori Hardesty at (410) 455-2493 or at lhardesty@umbc.edu. Don't delay, as the deadline for enrolling in the service-learning deadline is almost here!
